Why you Should Book Newborn Photography in the First Three Weeks

Fresh and New!

There is something incredibly magical about photographing newborns when they are still tiny and curled up, still fresh from the womb. This is why I always encourage parents to book their newborn photography session within the first three weeks after birth, if they can. Here’s why:

1. Capturing Their Sleepy and Curled-Up Poses

In the first few weeks of life, babies are still adjusting to the world outside the womb. They tend to sleep more and curl up naturally, making it the perfect time to capture those adorable, womb-like poses. During the early days, babies are more flexible and comfortable in positions that remind them of being in their mama’s belly. These sweet, curled-up poses are unique to the newborn stage and we can create memories of when baby was tiny.

2. Capturing Those Newborn Features

Babies change so quickly in their first few weeks. Their new baby features—like those tiny fingers and toes, and the sweet peach fuzz on their skin—don’t stay for long. By scheduling your photography session early, you ensure that you capture these precious details before they begin to fade. Their newborn skin, with all its tiny wrinkles and softness, is best documented during this time.

3. The Sleepy Baby Advantage

Babies tend to sleep a lot during the first three weeks, which is a huge bonus for a photography session. A sleeping baby is much easier to pose and photograph, allowing for a relaxed and stress-free experience for both the baby and the parents. The deep sleep of a newborn allows for beautiful, serene images that capture the peace and tranquility of this stage. However, if your baby isn’t sleepy then that’s OK too! I’ll take your time and let the session be guided by your baby.

4. A Special Experience

Booking a newborn photography session early on is not just about capturing beautiful images—it’s also a wonderful experience for your family. Parents often find these sessions to be a calming and enjoyable experience with their new baby. I’ll also give you some words of wisdom and some tips and tricks that I use to help baby settle!

5. Memories That Last a Lifetime

The first few weeks of your baby’s life pass by so quickly, and before you know it, your tiny newborn will grow and change. Photographs taken during this time will remain as a memory of the early days – even if your memory is a little fuzzy thanks to childbirth and lack of sleep! These images will be loved not just by you but also by your little one as they grow older – children love to look back on photos of when they were small!

6. Easier to Schedule

Booking your newborn photography session in advance, ideally during your pregnancy, will ensure that you secure a spot during the first few weeks. As a photographer specialising in newborn babies, I sometimes get fully booked so planning ahead allows for more flexibility and guarantees that you won’t miss this ideal window.

If you’re expecting or have recently welcomed your new baby, I would love to help you create some beautiful photographs and your new growing family. Contact me today to schedule your newborn photography session and let’s create some special images special together.
